New Sports Announcement Summer 2016

Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh, New Sports Coming This Summer

2016 is an exciting year for Stonewall Sports in the steel city as it continues to grow! With this growth, a Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh organization has been formed.  The organization’s mission is to ensure that each sport is properly supported to provide an inclusive, low-cost and high-fun sports experiences with a philanthropic heart.

New Organization

Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh is under the leadership of a board comprised of Executive Director Brian Adams, Marketing Director J.D. Maxwell, Community Outreach Director Josh Verbano, Treasurer Josh Montgomery and a vacant Events Director board position.  To represent each of the local Stonewall Sports organizations, the Commissioner of each sport holds a voting position within the board.

As Adams becomes president of the combined Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh organization, Rob Anderson has been appointed the new commissioner of Kickball for 2016. The Spring season of kickball is planned to begin in April with registration opening soon.

New Sports Approved

At the Stonewall Gives Back Gala on January 30, 2016 at Phipps Conservatory, President Brian Adams introduced two new sports approved by the Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh Board of Directors. Beginning this summer, bowling and sand volleyball will be held as new sport offerings.

Bowling will be held starting mid-June on Wednesday evenings at Forward Lanes in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Pittsburgh is the third Stonewall Sports city to add bowling to its offerings. Leagues already exist in Raleigh, North Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. Brian McCollum was appointed Commissioner of Bowling for its first season.

Sand Volleyball, a brand new sport to the Stonewall Sports family, will also be held this Summer. Field arrangements and schedule are still under negotiation with Pittsburgh city parks. Keely Anthony was appointed Commission of Sand Volleyball for its first season.

Registration for both summer sports is expected to take place in late spring 2016. Details for each sport will be made available through the new Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh website at StonewallSportsPGH.org.
